Sometimes it's handy to know the current resolution of the window you're working in. Wouldn't it be nice to know the window dimensions as you're resizing the window? Here's an easy way to enable this functionality in Ubuntu 9.1.
First, you'll need to go to the Ubuntu Software Center. Search for 'compiz' and then install 'Simple CompizConfig Settings Manager'.
Once you've installed the settings manager, go to:
System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager
Click on 'Utility' along the left side of the window. Under this tab, you should see a plugin called 'Resize Info'. Check the box next to the button, then click the button to go into the resize info settings.
In the settings window you can change colors and fade time. Make sure the box 'show resize info for all windows' is checked.
That's all there is to it! If you're running a duel boot system, you may also want to learn how to enable the window resize tooltip in Windows XP.
